Welcome back to the Belle Blog! I hope you enjoyed last week’s piece over sexual health and wellness. There were many components to that topic, so it was really difficult to cover them all. Next week’s blog will be covering common pain dysfunctions that surround women’s sexual wellness. For this week, we’re just going to have a fun discussion on ways that you can improve your pelvic health & wellness!
This is slight controversial topic because the vulva itself is self cleaning. However there are those people out there who might need more assistance in this department, and that’s totally okay! In last week’s blog I talked about a few different brands that I enjoy using, and have had positive reviews from clients about them. Some common products that you might use for hygiene and pelvic health are wipes, intimate body wash, anti-itch vulva cream, balms, and Honeypot also makes vulva safe bath bombs that are amazing!
It is important to realize that there are so many different types of brands out there that offer “intimate hygiene” products. Please recognize that not all products are created the same, and some will have more chemicals than others which can lead to rashes, itching, redness and skin irritation. So please review the products before you purchase 😊
Ok so this might seem like a “duh” statement, but I have had this discussion with too many people to NOT mention it. We are busy human beings, which I totally get. Sometimes you run out of time after a run, or hard workout so you end up leaving on those sweaty underwear or leggings… Now here is where women get frequent yeast infections, rashes, skin irritations, or excess chaffing! Please take the time, use a freshness wipe, and change your bottom layers at least! Get out of those sweaty leggings, or at least change into something more breathable if you have errands afterwards!
I love recommending yoga to my clients struggling with painful intercourse. Normally there is a component of where stress, anxiety, and excessive tension is just present in their body. Yoga can be a great, easy way to help decrease those stressors and help improve the pelvic floor muscle tension. All in all, it’s a great way to help manage pain and muscle tension! Plus it’s a very low stress task to try and make a habit of, so this makes it an easily achievable goal.
There is no way to avoid talking about this if we are discussing pelvic health & wellness. Next week we will be covering pain dysfunctions with sexual wellness, but for this week – let’s chat about how to improve your pelvic health in the subject of sex. If you are one of the many women who suffer from vaginal dryness, then you need to make sure you are using a lubricant! My top favorites are Uberlube, Slippery Stuff, and Good Clean Love. These are all very high quality and made with safe ingredients, and the Good Clean Love is the most organic of the three! Also, post-intercourse, remember to clean up afterwards and use the restroom! This can include taking a shower or using one of those freshness wipes. That just helps get the lube off of you sooner, and going to the restroom will help prevent a urinary tract infection.
These are all very simple, actionable steps to take towards improving your pelvic health. There is not exactly a book called “A Women’s Guide to a Healthy Vulva” out there, so making this as simple to understand as it is to implement is key. Honestly when I sat down to write this blog, this was definitely not the direction I was planning on going. However I do think it is important to take action with these four topics.
There are women out there who have a really hard time finding a brand, or type of intimate hygiene product that doesn’t give them a rash. So if you find that you are having a really hard time finding a product that works best for you, I would encourage you to reach out to me at ally@belleknoxville.com because I have a list of brands that healthy, organic or minimalist ingredients that might work for you!
Happy Monday my friends, I hope you have found this blog helpful. If you did please share it with a friend! ~Dr. Ally
